When do you need an onsite IT technician in Melbourne?
Geeks I.T. Melbourne (03 7057 2770) sends a technician when the job needs hands on the equipment: network and Wi-Fi faults, printer connectivity, new device setup and desktop hardware diagnosis. Onsite is $205/hour and remote is $125/hour. Both have a one-hour minimum.
The office printer has dropped off every staff laptop again, a new starter's PC is sitting in its box on Monday morning, or the office Wi-Fi keeps cutting out in the meeting room. Some of these can be sorted over the phone and a screen share, and some need someone in the room.

If you're not sure which one you need, ring us and describe what's happening. Plenty of problems start out looking like they need a visit and turn out to be fixable remotely, and the reverse also happens. Our remote support page explains how a remote session works, and our IT support cost in Melbourne guide covers pricing in more detail.
Onsite support for small businesses
For a small office, IT problems tend to affect several people at once, so a visit is usually about getting the whole team working again. Typical onsite jobs include:
Office network and Wi-Fi faults
Dead spots, dropouts and slow connections often depend on where the router sits, what's around it and which devices are struggling. A technician can test in the rooms where your staff actually have the problem. Details of that work are on our Wi-Fi and internet setup page.
Printer faults across multiple devices
A printer that connects fine for one computer and drops out for the others is a common small-office headache. One customer told us:
"Prakash located the issue and secured the connection." — Chrissy, Google review
See printer setup services for what we cover.
Staff device setup
Setting up a new starter's computer, moving files across and getting everything connected to the office network is easier with someone beside you. Our computer setup page has the detail.
Hardware faults
When a machine won't start or a part is suspected, a technician needs to physically look at it. Here is what we do:
- Desktop computers: diagnosis, SSD and RAM upgrades, and software work.
- Other hardware faults: we diagnose the fault and refer you on to the right place for the repair.
Ad-hoc visits or a managed plan?
If problems are occasional, booking a visit when something breaks may be all you need. If you find yourself calling every few weeks, or you want regular support for a growing team, a managed plan is likely the better fit. Our business IT support page sets out the managed IT plans, what each one includes and the pricing.
What happens during an onsite IT visit?
- Book. Call us or use the online booking form, and tell us what's going wrong and where you are.
- Talk it through. The technician talks through the problem with you, including what you've already tried.
- Diagnosis. They test the device, network or printer to find the actual cause rather than guess.
- Fix or refer. If it's something we do, such as a network fix, printer connection, device setup, software issue or a desktop SSD/RAM upgrade, where possible, we fix it during the visit. If it's a hardware fault outside our scope, we explain what we found and refer you on.
- Billing. You're billed by the hour for the time on the job.
A few things make a visit run smoothly: have the device and any error messages ready, know your Wi-Fi network name, and let us know if anything is urgent or if there's a particular room where the problem shows up.
Rather Have a Tech Sort It?
Our Melbourne team can help remotely or at your place, and we confirm the hourly rate before we start.

What does onsite cover compared with remote?
Onsite covers jobs that need hands on the equipment: Wi-Fi and network faults, printer connectivity, new device setup, desktop hardware diagnosis and desktop SSD and RAM upgrades. Remote covers software problems, settings and account issues, and slow-computer troubleshooting.
